Connect a Shopify store so you can schedule blog posts to its blog from Create a Post. The SEO Tool writes to the store you connect here too.

Note

Available on the Creator and Business plans.

Before you start

  • Know your store's myshopify.com address. It appears in your Shopify admin URL.
  • Be on the Creator or Business plan. See Choose a plan and upgrade if you need to change plans.

Connect with Continue to Shopify

This is the quickest way. You approve Pinned inside your store admin.

  1. Open Connections.

  2. Under Social integrations, find the Shopify card and click Connect.

  3. Click the field with the hint "your-store.myshopify.com" and type your store's myshopify.com address.

  4. Click Continue to Shopify. The button reads Redirecting… while Shopify opens.

  5. In your store admin, review the permissions and approve them.

  6. Back on the Connections page, the Shopify card shows how many stores are connected, and your store is listed underneath.

Pinned asks for these permissions:

  • Blog posts and files. Scheduled posts and the SEO Tool write there.
  • Read access to products, languages and markets, so SEO drafts can link real products.
  • Translations, so the SEO Tool can translate your store into the languages you pick.

Pinned never changes your products' own content. It only adds translations. You can uninstall Pinned from Shopify at any time.

If the form opens with client ID and secret fields instead of Continue to Shopify, use the next section.

Connect with your own app's client ID and secret

Use this if you'd rather create your own app in Shopify. If the form shows Continue to Shopify, click Use your own app's client ID and secret instead to switch.

Shopify only hands out access when the app and the store belong to the same Shopify organization. Create the app in the organization that owns your store.

  1. In the Shopify Dev Dashboard (dev.shopify.com), sign in to the organization that owns your store.
  2. Click Create app.
  3. In the app's version, add the access scopes write_content and read_content. These cover blog posts.
  4. If you use the SEO Tool, also add read_products, read_locales, read_markets, read_translations, write_translations, read_files and write_files.
  5. Click Release, then Install app on your store.
  6. From the app's Settings, copy the Client ID and the Client secret.
  7. In Pinned, open Connections, find the Shopify card and click Connect.
  8. Type your store's myshopify.com address in the first field.
  9. Paste the client ID into the field with the hint "Client ID" and the secret into the field with the hint "Client secret (shpss_…)".
  10. Click Connect store. The button reads Checking the store… while Pinned tests the credentials.

Pinned uses your client ID and secret to get a fresh access token from your store each day. They stay encrypted on Pinned's server. Rotating the secret or uninstalling the app cuts access.

Connect with an older custom app's access token

Use this only if you already have a custom app made in your Shopify admin before 2026.

  1. In the Shopify card's form, click Use your own app's client ID and secret instead if the form isn't already showing the client ID and secret fields.
  2. Click Have an older custom app with an access token (shpat_…)?
  3. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Apps and sales channels → Develop apps and open your app.
  4. Under Configuration → Admin API integration, tick write_content and read_content. If you use the SEO Tool, also tick read_products, read_locales, read_markets, read_translations, write_translations, read_files and write_files.
  5. Copy the Admin API access token.
  6. In Pinned, type your myshopify.com address, then paste the token into the field with the hint "Admin API access token (shpat_…)".
  7. Click Connect store.

The token stays on Pinned's server. Uninstalling the app in Shopify revokes it. To go back, click Use a client ID and secret instead.

If one-click approval is available, you also see Approve in Shopify instead next to Connect store. Click it to return to the quick method.

What the messages mean

Pinned tests your credentials against the store before it saves them. When you connect with your own app or a token, a message appears under the card:

  • "Your store's name is connected." You're set for blog posts and the SEO Tool.
  • "Your store's name is connected for blog posts. For the SEO Tool, also add (or tick) some scopes…" Blog posts work, but the SEO Tool needs the extra permissions the message lists. With your own app, add them to the app's access scopes in the Dev Dashboard, release the new version, then connect again. With an older custom app, tick them under the app's Admin API scopes and paste the token again.

If the app is missing read_content or write_content, Pinned refuses the connection, because it couldn't publish anything. The message names the missing scope and where to add it.

Add more stores or remove one

You can connect up to 5 stores.

  • To add another, click Add store on the Shopify card and repeat the steps above.
  • To remove a store, find it in the list under the Shopify card and click Remove.

If you connect a store that's already listed, the new credentials replace the old ones.

Use your store

Once a store is connected, you can schedule blog posts to it from Create a Post. The caption becomes the article, and you pick the blog and title in the Shopify panel. See Create and schedule a post. The SEO Tool adds your store as a brand. See Set up the SEO Tool.

Troubleshooting

"Couldn't reach that store" or "That store wasn't found"

Check the myshopify.com address. It must be your store's own address, such as your-store.myshopify.com, not your public website.

"That doesn't look like a Shopify store"

The address didn't answer like a Shopify store. Check the myshopify.com domain and try again.

"Couldn't connect that Shopify store — check the domain and try again."

This appears after Continue to Shopify if the connection didn't complete. Check the address and try again.

"Shopify didn't accept that client ID and secret"

Copy both values again from the app's Settings in the Dev Dashboard.

Shopify only hands out a token when the app and the store belong to the same organization

Create the app in the Dev Dashboard of the organization that owns this store, install it on the store, and check the address is this store's.

"Shopify didn't hand out a token for this store"

Check the app is released and installed on the store. Shopify's own explanation follows in brackets in the message.

"Shopify rejected that access token"

Check you copied the token in full and that the app is installed on this store.

The app needs the write_content or read_content scope

Add the scope the message names. For your own app, add it in the Dev Dashboard, release the new version, then connect again. For an older custom app, tick it under Configuration → Admin API integration, then paste the token again.

"You've reached the Shopify store limit — remove one first."

You can connect up to 5 stores. Click Remove next to one, then connect the new store.

"Shopify connection expired — reconnect the store on the Connections page"

Pinned can no longer use the store's access. This happens if you uninstall the app, rotate the secret or revoke the token. Connect the store again.
