Connect Discord and Bluesky on the Connections page so Pinned can publish your scheduled posts to a Discord channel or a Bluesky account. Do this once, then pick them when you write a post.

Before you start

  • For Discord, you need a Discord server you manage. You choose the server and channel in Discord's own window.
  • For Bluesky, you need your Bluesky handle and an app password. You create the app password in Bluesky, not in Pinned.

Connect a Discord channel

Each connection posts to one channel. To post to several channels, connect each one.

  1. In the sidebar, click Connections.

  2. Under Social integrations, find the Discord card and click Connect.

  3. On Discord's page, pick the server and the channel you want Pinned to post to, then approve. Pinned only gets access to that one channel.

  4. Back in Pinned, a field opens next to your server name. Type a name for the channel. The hint reads "channel name, e.g. announcements". Discord doesn't share channel names with Pinned, so this name is yours. It can be up to 60 characters.

  5. Click Save.

The Discord card now reads Connected · 1 channel, and the channel is listed under it with your server name and channel name.

If you click Cancel instead of saving a name, the channel stays connected. Click · name the channel next to it whenever you want to add a name.

Add more Discord channels

  1. On the Discord card, click Add channel.
  2. Pick another server or channel on Discord's page and approve.
  3. Name the new channel and click Save.

You can connect up to 10 Discord channels. At the limit, Pinned shows "You've reached the Discord channel limit — remove one first."

Rename a Discord channel

  1. On the Connections page, find the channel under the Discord card.
  2. Click the channel name (for example · #announcements). Its tooltip reads Rename this channel.
  3. Change the name and click Save.

Remove a Discord channel

  1. Under the Discord card, find the channel.
  2. Click Remove.

Pinned also deletes the connection on Discord's side, so nothing can post to that channel through Pinned anymore.

Connect a Bluesky account

Bluesky connects with an app password, not your main password. App passwords can't change your settings or read your direct messages, and you can revoke Pinned's at any time.

  1. In Bluesky, open Settings → Privacy & Security → App Passwords and create an app password. It looks like xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx.

  2. In Pinned, click Connections in the sidebar.

  3. Under Social integrations, find the Bluesky card and click Connect.

  4. In the first field (hint: "handle, e.g. nightowl.bsky.social"), type your Bluesky handle. A leading @ is fine.

  5. In the second field (hint: "app password (xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx)"), paste the app password.

  6. Click Link account.

When it works, the form closes and the card reads Connected · 1 account. Your account is listed under it with your handle and display name.

Link account stays dimmed until both fields have something in them. To close the form without connecting, click Cancel.

Add more Bluesky accounts

  1. On the Bluesky card, click Add account.
  2. Enter the handle and a new app password, then click Link account.

You can connect up to 5 Bluesky accounts. At the limit, remove one first.

Remove a Bluesky account

  1. Under the Bluesky card, find the account.
  2. Click Remove.

To cut off access completely, you can also delete Pinned's app password in Bluesky.

Post to Discord and Bluesky

  1. In the sidebar, click Create a Post.
  2. Write your post.
  3. Under Publish to, choose your Discord channel or Bluesky account.

The full steps for writing and scheduling are in Create and schedule a post. If you use workspaces, you can also add these connections to one. See Work with workspaces and teams. For the other platforms, see Connect your social accounts.

Tips

  • Bluesky posts can be up to 300 characters, with up to 4 images. A video is added to the post as a link.
  • Discord messages can be up to 2,000 characters. Pinned attaches up to 4 images or files of 8 MB or less. Larger files go in the message as a link.
  • Give each Discord channel a clear name. The name is how you tell channels apart when you pick where to post.
  • Use a separate app password for Pinned so you can revoke it without affecting other apps.

Troubleshooting

Pinned says "That doesn't look like an app password"

You probably entered your main Bluesky password. Create an app password in Bluesky under Settings → Privacy & Security → App Passwords and paste that instead. It has four groups of four letters and numbers, separated by dashes.

Pinned says "Couldn't connect Bluesky. Check your handle and app password."

Check that the handle is spelled correctly and that the app password was copied in full. If it still fails, create a new app password and try again.

Pinned says "Couldn't connect Discord — try again."

Click Connect or Add channel again and finish approving on Discord's page. If you back out of Discord's page, no channel is added.

A Bluesky post fails with "Bluesky connection expired"

The app password may have been revoked in Bluesky. Remove the account, create a new app password, and connect it again.

A Discord post fails because the webhook was deleted

The connection for that channel was deleted in Discord. Pinned drops it from the list. Click Add channel to connect it again.
