Each brand in the SEO Tool has a Keywords tab. It holds the phrases you want articles written for, both the ones you add yourself and the ones Google Search Console finds. Use it to add keywords, see how they perform, and pick which one gets a draft next.

Note

Available on the Business plan.

Before you start

Open your keywords

  1. In the sidebar, click SEO Tool.

  2. Under Brands, click your brand.

  3. Click the Keywords tab. The tab shows how many keywords the brand has.

If the page shows a red bar starting with Before generating:, something is missing before drafts can be written. The bar links to Settings for the language model and to the brand's rulebook for the source domain. You can still add and manage keywords. Only Queue draft waits on this.

Add your own keywords

  1. Under Add your own keywords, type one keyword per line in Keywords, one per line. The hint shows the style: pour over coffee dripper.
  2. Optionally, type a label in Category (optional). The category is searchable on this page and gives context when a draft is written.
  3. Set Priority. Use a number from 1 to 1000. The default is 100. Lower numbers run first, and Search Console keywords are 500.
  4. Click Add keywords.

Each keyword you add becomes a candidate for one new article. Duplicates are ignored. A message at the top of the page tells you how many keywords were added to your bank.

Read the keyword list

Under the Keywords heading, the table lists every keyword that hasn't been deleted. A line above it tells you how many keywords there are and which rows you're seeing.

ColumnWhat it shows
KeywordThe phrase, with its category after it if you gave one.
SourceSearch Console for keywords Google found, or bank for keywords you added.
Statusactive, used, or deleted.
PositionYour average Google position for the keyword.
ImpressionsHow often your site appeared for it.
ClicksHow many clicks it brought.
CTRThe share of impressions that became clicks.
PriorityThe number that sets the order for drafting. Lower runs first.
Last usedThe date the keyword was last used. It's blank if it hasn't been.

Position, Impressions, Clicks and CTR are the latest 28-day Search Console reading. They stay blank for a keyword with no reading, which is common for keywords you just added.

Find keywords with filters and sorting

  1. In Search, type any part of a keyword or its category.

  2. Choose a Source: all keywords, only those from Search Console, or only those in your bank. Each option shows how many keywords it holds.

  3. Choose a Status:

    • Active and used is the default view.
    • Active shows keywords with the active status.
    • Used shows keywords with the used status.
    • The last option, Deleted from Search Console, shows keywords that were deleted.
  4. In Min impressions, type a number to hide keywords with fewer impressions.

  5. Choose a Sort order: Most impressions, Best position, Most clicks, Highest CTR, Priority, Most recently used or A to Z.

  6. Click Apply.

When filters are active, a Clear button appears next to Apply. Click it to go back to the full list. Your filters are kept in the page address, so you can bookmark a view.

If you haven't picked a sort, the list sorts by Most impressions when you have Search Console keywords, and by Priority when you don't.

Queue a draft for a keyword

  1. Find the keyword in the table.
  2. In its row, click Queue draft.

A message confirms the draft is queued. It appears under Need approval when the job finishes. Nothing is published until you approve it. To review the draft, see Write, review and publish blog posts.

Queue draft isn't available until the language model and approved source domain named in the Before generating: bar are in place. Deleted keywords don't have the button.

Delete keywords

To delete one keyword, click the trash icon at the end of its row.

To delete several at once:

  1. Tick the checkbox at the start of each row you want to remove.
  2. Click Delete selected, above the table.

Deleted keywords leave the default list. To see them again, set Status to the Deleted from Search Console option and click Apply.

Deleting a Search Console keyword hides it and keeps the nightly sync from bringing it back. To bring a keyword back, add the same phrase under Add your own keywords.

Page through a long list

Below the table, click Previous or Next to move between pages. A line such as Page 1 of 1 shows where you are. Next to Per page, choose 50, 100, 200 or 500 rows. The default is 100. Your filters and sort stay in place as you page.

Troubleshooting

The table says there are no keywords yet

Add some under Add your own keywords. To bring in Search Console keywords, sync Search Console on the Schedule tab. See Connect Search Console and set a publishing schedule.

The table says nothing matches these filters

Your filters are hiding every keyword. Click Clear, or loosen Min impressions, Source or Status.

A keyword I added doesn't appear

Duplicates are ignored, so the phrase may already be in your list. Search for the phrase, and check the deleted keywords too.

The position, impressions, clicks and CTR columns are blank

Those numbers come from Search Console. A keyword with no reading yet shows blanks.

Queue draft is unavailable

Read the Before generating: bar at the top of the page. Add the language model and the approved source domain it names, then reload the page.
