The SEO Tool checks whether AI answer engines (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews) cite your brand when someone asks a question you'd like to be the answer to. The SEO Analytics page puts those results next to your Google search numbers. Use both to see where you show up and where you don't.
Note
Available on the Business plan.
Before you start
- Set up the SEO Tool and add your store as a brand. See Set up the SEO Tool.
- Connect Google Search Console. Prompts are built from your Search Console queries, and the search numbers come from it. See Connect Search Console and set a publishing schedule.
- Have a key for each engine you want to check (details below).
Set up the AI engines
- In the SEO Tool, click Settings, or open Settings directly. Find the AI search visibility section.
- Tick the engines you want to check: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. Each engine gets the same buyer prompts on every run.
- Under each engine, paste its key: OpenAI API key, Google AI API key, Perplexity API key or SerpApi key. Google AI Overviews are fetched through SerpApi, so that engine needs the SerpApi key.
- Check the badge next to each key label. saved means the key is stored. not set means it's missing. using the language-model key means ChatGPT or Gemini is reusing the key from your AI model, which works when that provider is OpenAI or Google. See Connect your own AI model.
- Leave OpenAI model, Gemini model and Perplexity model as they are unless you want a different model. For Google AI Overviews, set Country (two letters) and Language.
- Set Prompts per run, from 1 to 200. Each prompt is one call per engine, so 25 prompts across four engines is 100 calls a run.
- Set Impressions floor for gaps. A prompt needs this many impressions over 28 days before a missing citation counts as a gap.
- Click Save AI search visibility.
To change a key later, paste the new one. Leave the field blank to keep the saved key, or tick forget the saved key to remove it.
Generate prompts and run a check
In the SEO Tool, click your brand, then click the AI visibility tab.
Click Generate prompts from Search Console. Pinned takes your most-seen queries from the last 28 days that meet the impressions floor and writes one buyer-style prompt for each. Prompts you already have are kept.
To track a question of your own, type it in Add a query (the hint reads "best pour over kettle"). Optionally write the full question in Prompt (optional; written for you when blank). Then click Add prompt.
Click Queue a run. Each run asks up to your Prompts per run number of prompts to every engine that is switched on. Google AI Overviews are checked with the raw query, and the chat engines with the prompt.
The Queue a run button stays greyed out until at least one engine is set up and at least one prompt exists.
To stop asking a prompt, click pause at the end of its row. Click resume to ask it again. Paused prompts appear dimmed.
Read the engine cards
Each engine card shows the share of its answers that cite you. A card reads "cited in 3 of 8 answers" once results exist. Before then it reads "not run yet" or "no AI answers yet". It also shows any errors, the date of the last run, and "switched off" if you've unticked that engine in Settings.
Read the prompts table
Each prompt row has a result for every engine:
| Result | What it means |
|---|---|
| cited | The engine's answer cited your site. The page it cited is shown. |
| not cited | The engine answered but didn't cite you. The sites it cited instead are listed, or "no sources". |
| no AI answer | The engine gave no AI answer for this prompt. |
| error | The check failed. Hover over it to see why. |
| not run | This prompt hasn't been asked to this engine yet. |
If a later run failed, a small "error on" note with the date appears next to the earlier result.
Find your gaps
The Gaps: impressions but no citation list shows prompts that meet the impressions floor, where at least one engine answered and none cited you. It uses the latest answers from the last 45 days. Its columns are Query, Impr. 28d, Not cited by, Cited instead and Ticket.
The Ticket column says what Pinned would do: refresh the article that ranks for the query, or write a new article for the keyword. It also says whether that is planned this week. If the playbook switch for AI answers is on, up to a set number of gaps a week become tickets in the weekly plan. You review them like any other draft. If the switch is off, the gaps stay a list.
Tickets are written when the weekly plan runs on the brand's Schedule tab (Monday, or when you click Plan this week).
When other sites are being cited, a Cited instead of us list appears below the gaps. It shows each Domain, how many Prompts it was cited for, and which Engines cited it.
Read the SEO Analytics page
In the SEO Tool's top bar, click Analytics, or open SEO Analytics directly. This is separate from Analytics in the side menu, which covers your Link in Bio page. See Track your analytics.
Choose a date range. Click Last 7 days, Last month, Last quarter or Last year. Or enter From and To dates and click Apply dates. Click Clear to go back to the last 7 days.
If you have more than one brand, click a brand's name next to Brand. Each brand is its own Search Console property, so figures are never combined.
Google reports with a three-day lag. The last 7 days therefore stop three days ago, and you can't pick a later date. Last month, Last quarter and Last year are the previous whole calendar periods. Every figure with a change pill is compared with the period before: the previous calendar period for the presets, and an equal-length period before your dates for a custom range.
The line under the title shows when Search Console last synced. If it says Search Console has not been synced yet, connect Google first (see the guide linked above).
Search figures cover your blog articles that Pinned tracks. Other store pages aren't counted.
What each card shows
| Card | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Your brand's search performance | Pick Clicks, Impressions, Click-through rate or Average position from the dropdown. You see the total, the change since the period before, and a daily line. For position, lower is better. |
| Searches leading to your store | The queries people used, with impressions, position, clicks and click-through rate. It's the latest 28-day reading, so it ignores your date range. |
| Best performing articles | Clicks per article in your date range. Click a row to open the article. |
| Keyword positions | How many queries sit in the top 3, positions 4 to 10, 11 to 20, 21 to 50 and beyond 50. Positions 11 to 20 are within striking distance of page one. |
| Top ranking keywords | Your page-one queries, best position first. |
| Most clicks | The queries that earned the most clicks, from the latest 28-day reading. |
| AI visibility | The share of AI answers that cite your brand over the last 60 days, using the latest answer per prompt, with a row per engine. Click AI visibility tab to go to the prompts and gaps. |
| Cited instead of you | The sites AI answers pointed to, by number of prompts. |
| Playbook | Which automatic actions are on or off, and how past actions turned out, with columns Action, Taken, Measured, Improved, Flat, Declined and Clicks before → after (28d). Change the switches on the brand's Schedule tab. |
| Refresh candidates | Pages ranking 8 to 20 with weak click-through, or losing clicks, that the weekly plan may refresh. |
| Output | Articles per week over the last 12 weeks. Switch between Published and Generated. |
| Pipeline | Live articles, plus what is Scheduled in Shopify, Waiting on you, and your keyword counts. |
| Run health and spend | Generation attempts over the last 30 days, attempts with a blocking failure, input and output tokens, and estimated cost where the provider reports it. |
| By model and Most frequent blocking rules | Runs per model, and the rules that blocked drafts most often, over the last 30 days. |
Click the button under a list, such as Show 3 more, to see more rows. Show less collapses it again.
Download the quarterly SEO deck
At the bottom of the Analytics page, Quarterly SEO deck builds a PowerPoint report for the selected brand from the numbers on the page. A language model writes none of it. The title slide and executive summary are always included.
- Under Quarterly SEO deck, tick the sections you want. They include Quarter comparison table, Top queries, Top articles, Playbook: automatic actions and their results, AI share of voice (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, AI Overviews) and Recommendations.
- Click Download Q3 2026 to date for the current quarter, or Download Q2 2026 for the previous one. The quarter names on your buttons follow today's date.
The Spanish-language search (brands with a Spanish locale) section is ticked by default only for brands with a Spanish locale.
Troubleshooting
The message says no engines are set up
Add at least one engine key in Settings and click Save AI search visibility. If an engine is ticked but its key is missing or wrong, the tab names the engine and the reason. Fix it in Settings.
Queue a run is greyed out
You need at least one engine with a working key and at least one prompt. Click Generate prompts from Search Console or Add prompt first.
Generate prompts added nothing
Prompts come from queries with at least your impressions floor in the last 28 days. Sync Search Console on the brand's Schedule tab, or lower Impressions floor for gaps in Settings.
An engine shows error
Hover over the word error to see the reason. It is usually a key problem. Fix the key in Settings and queue a new run.
The Analytics cards say there's no page data
Search Console reports with a three-day lag. The nightly sync keeps a rolling 90 days of daily page data from the day Google was connected. A recent connection or a short date range can leave a window empty.
The AI visibility share shows a dash
No engine has returned an AI answer yet. Queue a run on the AI visibility tab.
